22 November 2010: Walking from The Peak to home
It's fall/winter in Hong Kong. That means it's not that warm anymore: about 22 degrees, hence much better to spend time outdoors. Last weekend we therefore went for a walk near to our house. First with a public bus to "The Peak", one of the highest hills of Hong Kong Islan (where a lot of tourist go to have a stunning view of Hong Kong Harbour). From the top we took the stroller to decend the hill. Despite the altitude and the fact that the hill is sometimes fairly steep, we managed to go down in about one hour. At the bottom of the hill there is a small lake and in another half hour we were home again. See the photo's! |

25 December 2010: Christmas in Hong Kong
Shopping malls in Hong Kong are usually nicely decorated for all the main festivals. Hence you can also see a lot of nice displays for Christmas. We went to view some of them during daytime and at night (when most of them are nicely lit) and made quite a few pictures. Most of the skyscrapers near the harbour (that normally already look very nice at night) have special Christmas lights as well! See the photo's! |

29 December 2010: Ngong Ping 360
Since it's a break and Emily and Henk both have a short holiday we went to visit Lantau Island. This is one of the larger islands near the airport which has two main attractions: Hong Kogn Disneyland and Ngong Ping 360. We have obviously already been to Disneyland a million times, hence we decided this time to pay Ngong Ping a visit. Using a 25 minute cable car ride you can visit a famous Buddhist temple and a Bhuddist village. Some of the cabins in the are special: they have a glass plate at the bottom that give a 360 degree spectacular view of the surroundings. The Buddha statue is one of the larger ones of Asia. 29 Januari 2011: Chinese New Year

|
| Next week it will be Chinese New Year again: on 4th of February the Year of the Rabbit. The last couple of weeks the shopping malls have therefore replaced all Christmas decorations with the new items for Chinese New Year. This year therefore: rabbits everywhere ! This weekend we therefore decided to visit Langham Place to take a few pictures. Emily and Sophie obviously loved it. See the two pictures above. |

4 February 2011: Lamma Island
 |
 |
|
This year the Chinese New Year public holidays are on Thursday and Friday, hence everyone has four days of leave. Therefore a good opportunity for us to go to Lamma Island, one of the smaller islands that we can see from Bel-Air across our appartment. With one of the ferries from Central it only takes about 25 minutes to get to the island. Lamma Island has a few small villages, mainly focussing on fishing and tourism (seafood restaurants!) The island also has a power station that provides electricity to Hong Kong Island.
The island has a number of hiking paths that allow you to walk from one of the villages in the North to one of the other villages at the South-East. Along the way there is a nice small beach and in the hills there are a number of designated spots to sit and relax. After a walk of about 2 hours we took a ferry back to Abdereen and after a pizza in the 'local Pizza-hut' it was just another 5 minutes in the mini-bus to Bel-Air.

1 May 2011: Holiday Netherlands
In the second half of April we had planned our annual leave to the Netherlands. Emily had an Easter break from school as well, hence a perfect time to plan the trip. Just like the previous ones, we started with a week in Groningen where Henk's family lives and the second week in Utrecht with Jenny's relatives. This time the weather was extraordinary: about 25 degrees and most of the days plenty of sunshine. We therefore primarily spent our time outside, riding our bicycles, meeting a few friends and eating and drinking the 'typical' Dutch food we'll have to miss in Hong Kong ...... See the pictures! |

2 May 2011: Verjaardag Emily
During our trip to The Netherlands Emily celebrated her 4th birthday and hence for the first time we were able to celebrate with the family. To get everyone together we made a reservation at a Dutch pancake restaurant in Voorst (Gelderland - middle of The Netherlands). The restaurant also had a small amusement park with primarily things to do for smaller kids. Everyone had a very good time playing and eating pancakes and ice-cream, also because the weather was extremely nice. And Emily had to buy another suitcase to bring all her birthday presents back to Hong Kong...... See the pictures! |
